An interesting debate has originated from a number of recent articles on the official website of Moneyweb putting the various reports issued by the King Committee over the past 26 years, and in particular the current King IV Report, in the proverbial “dock”.
“Guilty or not guilty, your Honour, that is the million (or probably, trillion) dollar question!” Without preempting the answer, suffice it to say that it is fairly obvious from some of these and related articles that, even after all of these years, there is still a fundamental misunderstanding of not only the law but also of the purpose and nature of the King Reports.
Join us at our Directors’ Hour on Thursday, 10 September 2020 at 12h30 for an interesting discussion with Associate Professor Owen Skae, Director of Rhodes Business School and author of one of the articles that attempted to set the record straight as far as the law and governance was concerned.
Prof Skae is an acknowledged expert in corporate governance and ethical leadership. He has written widely about and is frequently called upon to comment on matters pertinent to these topics.
Do yourself a favor, read the articles written by Prof Skae as well as that of Chris Logan (links below), form your own opinion and then join us on 10 September 2020 to participate in the debate and test your own arguments “for or against.”
